Creating My PCC Sched

Hey there! Here's an update on my PCC (Personal College Curriculum) approach! I wanted to give you pieces of how I go about my own college curriculum. There will be a few of these along the way to help those of you who want to embark on a journey like mine. So this is how my schedule looks when I juggle between classes and client projects that come up, especially when I have a full-time job.

Firstly, when I created a weekly schedule, I detailed what I needed to do throughout the day. I have an 8-hour schedule, from Mon to Fri. I needed to fill 8 hours out of my day for my classes. I separated 2 hrs for music and another 2 hours for film. I then set an hour for a lunch break and would start receiving client projects at 1 p.m. til 5 p.m. If I didn’t have any projects lined up I'd be right back to classes. I did this at the start of my PCC for the first three months. However, I noticed that my eyes would get strained and came to the conclusion that it was due to staying on the computer for hours on end. So I thought about putting in another activity that didn’t have anything to do with a screen. That activity was reading a book!

The book genres I would read were film, self-help, and entrepreneurial books. This helped alleviate the strain in my eyes and the boredom of staring at the screen. Adding this to my schedule helped keep the day interesting. I then set an hour for fiction so there was no room for boredom. This schedule worked really well but unfortunately changed when I got my full-time job.

The second schedule was much simpler to follow. To give you an idea, my full-time job started from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. So I had the mornings to do classes and after work hours. This schedule worked for a while until work started eating at me. I began to feel too tired the next day to get up and start classes. It was hard, but I tried to keep this schedule consistent. There were days I had overtime work so there was no room for classes. It was such a challenge but I kept reminding myself what was important, and that was leaving room for my studies.

As Steven Covey shares, ‘We must never become too busy sawing to take to time to sharpen the saw.” I knew giving time to my studies was going to be beneficial in so many ways, which I will be getting deeper into in my next blog.
