Virtual Careers By Jomar Hilario - Book Report

VIRTUAL CAREER PART 01

Published in the year 2015, by Shepherd’s Voice Publications, Inc. The book with a subtitle, “Earn Dollars at Home, Eliminate Daily Stress, Embrace your Family more”, Virtual Careers is a book written by Jomar Hilario, who is known as the Tim Ferriss of the Philippines, for his early work with virtual assistants and online businesses. He was also behind the online marketing of most of Bo Sanchez’s activities.

In the book, Mr. Hilario shares about the practical steps of how he became a successful virtual marketer and how he then began teaching others the way to market their businesses and creating a career online. The pages also contain inspiring stories from those who learned from him and have followed in his footsteps, to creating a career out of something they love, and doing it all inside the comforts of their own homes.

Chapter one, begins with how Mr. Hilario began working at a young age to help provide for his 13 siblings. He shares that it was difficult to earn money in the Philippines and it was to the point where his older siblings had to move to America and then send back money to meet their families needs at the time. This all happened before the advent of the internet, he shares that nobody taught them that there was an alternative instead of moving to America to earn money then, but if only they knew, things would have been different for his family. The rest of the first chapter talks about the rest of his story and how he came to teach people to become virtual professionals. He shares about first learning the term virtual professionals, to his first encounter with marketing, first big success, his first failure, to his first encounter with virtual assistants and to where he is now.

I read the first chapter with an open mind, but more with the eyes of a human being reading and listening to his story. Reading about his experiences, the struggles, taking those big risks and soon landing on the position to where he is now, gave me a sense of how brave and hard working of a person he is. Reading his beginning humbled me and allowed me to breathe in gratitude for all the many blessings in my life. I can’t imagine having to watch any of my siblings being adopted or having to move away to provide for the family. Reading along I saw a sense of myself in him too, in terms of leaving the norm and taking on something different inspired me. He could have stayed in his regular desk job but he decided to take a risk by leaving and spending his money to learn from different successful businessmen instead. This part of his story hit deep to home as I see the similarity of his situation and mine. It’s only the first chapter but I am excited to read on, learn more and get into the heart of his book!
