VIRTUAL CAREER PART 11
Jomar Hilario takes the reader on the next step to becoming a Virtual Professional. In this chapter he shares what kind of mindset and attitude a virtual professional must have. What kind of attitude? An A-player attitude as he calls it, but first, what is An A-player? They are the team member or professional who has all the right attitudes when accomplishing tasks. Right attitude? What kind of right attitude must a Virtual Professional have? These two points caught my attention and are what I want to highlight.
First, Strategic Laziness. Why Laziness? He shares that “Laziness is at the forefront of enjoying life. If you’re to patient with the computer and technology too accepting that it takes 1,354 manual steps to accomplish a job, then you’ve lost the benefit of not having to commute to work.” Virtual tasks are time black holes, so it’s a Virtual Professional’s obligation to find shortcuts. Strategic Laziness is coming up with ways to make your work flow easier. Studying and researching those laptop shortcuts are important. This makes working more efficient and you get your work done faster.
Second, Maxing out your strengths. An A-player must know what they are good at. When clients give you tasks that isn’t “you” or is not your strength reassign it to someone in your team who is good at it. To maximize your strength is to know your limits and strengths. If you are not part of a team then it comes down to drawing a line and letting your client know, what you can do for them. If the task they ask you to do isn’t doable then it’s alright to turn it down, Jomar points out. It’s better than doing the task but once you give it to your client he or she can spot out the flaws of your work and end up firing you.
From these two points, Jomar Hilario reminds Virtual professionals to embrace these attitudes. These kinds of attitudes become your weapons to becoming a successful Virtual professional.
