VIRTUAL CAREER PART 7

“The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want” a quote by Ben Stein. Chapter 7 of Virtual Careers gives us a simple idea of how to position yourself to clients. When starting out Jomar Hilario shares that it is already natural for your clients to wonder who you are.

We’d normally question, “How should I appear to my client, what would make them chose me?”. He starts off with a simple story and in that story there are two main elements. It’s simply create, “The Name and the Story”. If you can explain your story and what you do in one line then you are good to go in presenting yourself to a client.

In the midst of reading chapter 7, I really liked the Real Life story he shares from an ex-officer worker to freelance writer. Lianne Laroya, shares how at the beginning she prepared herself to become a Nurse but never went into it because she was influenced with these two phrases. “Don’t go to businesses, let the business come to you” and “Don’t find a job, make your own job.” So she ventured into entrepreneurship!

She talks about how unlike her office job, she now is her own boss. She loves how she has taken charge of her own life and is enjoying every second of it! I was really inspired by the two phrases she shared and that’s why I had to highlight it here. Like the quote by Ben Stein, specifically his line “Decided what you want” is truly powerful.

I’ve come to realize that when you know what you want, be it your goals or dreams, you have the power to strive to reach it! Figure out how you can get that dream house, land that dream job, or even start up that dream job and become your own boss! There are no limits, chose to take charge of your life, because no one else can but you.
