Don’t Drift Off to the What If Life

There are so many things that I want to do and I’ve been feeling so powerless the last couple of days. From studying, doing client work, prayer time, service, trying my best to get exercise and taking the time to read; are things that I’ve been trying to balance throughout the week. Honestly though, it’s been really hard trying to do it all. There are days that I can barely do 2 of the things I listed. Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day.

There are even thoughts that come to mind like “what if the body didn’t need sleep? and there was another way to get our bodies to reset and gain energy”. I even recall one time looking up at the ceiling and thinking to myself “wow, imagine all the things I’d have harnessed already without sleep; the many books I would’ve read and the work that I’d gotten done.” I can’t tell you the many times that I’ve drifted off into the “what if, life”.

There are so many days where drifting off to the “what if life” made everything easier, but I noticed that every time I did this, it'd turn out I was making excuses and about the situation. When this thought hit me I knew that this mindset wasn’t healthy. I used to get stuck on it, but I’ve taught myself to think about “what I could do” knowing I’m in this situation.

Rather than going off, dreaming up all kinds of scenarios to run away from the problem; I’ve learned to pause, and try to think about what I could do in order to reach my simple goals every week. Because of this mindset, it reminds me to be proactive and instead of just sitting and complaining, I should come up with ideas on how to solve the issue.
