Drop and Give me 20!

"Drop and Give me 20!” Is a saying by David C. Baker from his book The Business of Expertise: How Entrepreneurial Experts Convert Insight to Impact + Wealth.

In the military, when your commanding officer requests this of you, at that moment you must drop and give him 20 push-ups. David uses this metaphor which simply translates, that you must be an expert at your craft, at any given time. Chris Do shares this metaphor saying, if he were to ask you to give him 20 insights on your job or your craft, would you be ready at any given moment to share it?

It’s in answering this question, you will discover what kind of content you should put out. Chris shares a Gold Standard for putting out content, and that is to simply tell a personal story, that evokes an emotional response and has a clear take-away for the audience. With this thought in mind, it empowers your audience or customers to share your story!

At the same time, it’s important to teach your audience something new and to keep in mind and ask yourself, “How do I teach what I know in a new way?” or a way that people have not yet seen. When taking these things into account, it allows us to reflect on ourselves. This in turn not only becomes valuable to people, but to you as well! Your Post becomes like a public journal or a mental scrapbook.

Till then, stay creative!
