I always thought that once I’m out of college, I’ll get a decent job that pays well, then land the dream job and settle down. In the past three months of classes, my daily life was… wake up, eat, go to class, take down the assignments, finish work by 11pm and lay in bed, planning out the next day, before it even began.
One night it dawned on me, laying in bed, feeling worn out, I realized that everyday I woke up thinking about how long it would take me to get back into bed! So deep in thought, “Why can’t I live waking up excited, knowing it’s something I love, and will help others in the future. Should I sit it out and worry about it after college?” Then a mentor of mine, shared this Ted Talk by Bill Burnett, an Executive Director of the Design Program at Stanford University.
He asks his students to answer in 250 words, how they viewed work. Why should you work? What work is for? And what it means to work in service of. He also gives them a chance to answer life’s big questions, Why are you here? What is your view of the world? It’s in connecting both your work view and life view, your life will become more meaningful!
Taking this time to reflect, has allowed me to see what is most important, and what I am aiming for! It has helped me see a future so exciting, that I wanna get up, everyday and head toward it!
