Only You Can Do It And You Must!

Have you ever laid in bed, and randomly deep thoughts enter your mind? Thoughts like, “Are the things I’m doing making me happy?, Am I living a purposeful life?, Have I gotten everything out of life? Am I satisfied with how things are now?”

There have been many days where I question the things I’m doing. It’s more apparent on days when I notice it’s repetitive, and the things I’m doing begin to feel like a chore. Do you get that feeling too? When days like that occur, I can’t help but feel depressed, burnt out and many questions come to mind. “Is what I’m doing and now, worth it? Is what I’m doing significant?”

Seth Godin, in his book Linchpin, he writes, “Everyday I meet people who have so much to give but have been bullied enough or frightened enough to hold it back. It’s time to stop complying with the system and draw your own map. You have brilliance in you, your contribution is essential, and the art you create is precious. Only you can do it, and you must.”

It was in reading this book that I felt pushed to continue studying, working and learning new skills. In moments were those questions begin to come up, the words “You have brilliance in you. The art you create is precious, and only you can do it.” echos in my mind. I learned that every person has something special to offer the world, and all the people in it. The “art” or word “artist” isn’t just meant for those who can paint, it’s much more!

Artists are everywhere. They are people with a genius for finding a new answer, a new connection, or a new way of seeing and getting things done. We each have something unique in us that no one else does, and we are called to bring it out. The world needs more of you, and only you can do it! That is how we become indispensable, but the question is, are we willing to be different?
