“The Point of a Good Argument is walking away understanding one another's perspectives. If you are trying to win the argument then you both have already lost.” - Stephanie Yates-Anyabwile (Marriage and family therapist).
I came across this quote one day and it really hit home. I bet no one has ever gone a day in their life without having experienced arguing with someone. I bet it’s even more apparent now, if you are living like me. It’s been almost 2 years since Covid-19 hit, and we were asked to stay home for everyone’s safety. Throughout the past year, I was lucky and blessed to be at home with my entire family. In the last 5 years, my older siblings lived out of the house for college, but once the pandemic hit, my parents wanted us to be together. So, my older siblings had flown back home and now we’re all living under one roof.
When you live in a house filled with 7 different personalities or characters, no way is that home boring. Along with all the fun and entertaining moments, conflicts, misunderstandings and arguments are bound to happen. I’ve had my fair share of misunderstandings and arguments with my siblings, parents and many of my friends. Although, what I’ve come to learn is that arguments are normal.
We are all bound to face it, in relationships, in school, in our workplace and even at home. It’s a natural thing because we each are blessed with different and unique minds. So it is inevitable that everyone will see things differently. The quote reminded me to live life with an open-mind and to take this saying with me in every aspect of my life. Even if you don’t see things eye-to-eye, as long as you walk away understanding one another's perspectives, with a show of respect and always coming from a place of love, everybody wins in the end.
