THINK LIKE A BUSINESSMAN INSTEAD OF AN EMPLOYEE.

VIRTUAL CAREER PART 9

Jim Rohn writes, “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.” Jomar Hilario uses this beautiful quote to start of Chapter 9 of his book Virtual Careers.

The chapter is entitled: “Entrepreneurial Mindset” with its tagline, “Think like a Businessman instead of an Employee”. Jomar Hilario talks about approaching the virtual career with a businessman mindset instead of an employee, which most people I gather unfortunately had never thought to do so. He insightfully shares how just because you treat or call the client “boss, sir or ma’am” we treat them like we need their permission for everything or keeping in mind that they pay us and that supports our family, that’s not the case.

When you are a person with a virtual career you are now your own boss and you are an entrepreneur! He goes in detail and list down reminders that as an entrepreneur not to fret because the client is just one of many, you have the choice to accept jobs or not, you are in-charge of feeding yourself and your loved ones, etc. But what you should remember as “the boss” you need to remain proactive in everything. From getting your Health Insurance, Your own ID, studying and researching on the current market. All the things you will need for this field.

This section of the book taught me what it means to be “the boss” and an entrepreneur when taking on a virtual career. You should have the mindset of a businessman and not be afraid of the client and sometimes saying no. Another is being proactive when it comes to this line of work, so preparing ahead and having the mindset not to give up when you can’t find answers is important.
