This Seasons Personal Gifts

ree

It’s already been a year since I started my own college course. The process of creating my own course hasn’t been as easy as I thought it would be. Researching and picking topics to learn was a little overwhelming as I didn’t really know where to begin, and if each step I was taking was the right one. This thought always terrified me, but in the middle of this season and til recently I was enlightened by different inspirational authors who got me to stop, think and reflect. I’ve started to picture this experience as a season of slowly growing the seed of my dream life, and in this season I discovered three personal gifts.

First gift, patience. I’ve come to learn that continuing to remain patient when going through a season like this is important. As I pointed out the idea of my course not having a super concrete system constantly worried me, even when I’ve come up with a system. I start to feel down that I don’t see the outcome I expected but, I am reminded that it’s okay to take things slow and to be patience when I don’t yet see the results. Like a plant, you don’t constantly check to see if anything’s changed with it every single day, it takes time and patience. Which brings me to the second gift, forming a habit.

Forming a habit starts when you do something consistently. If you form a habit, be it studying that topic, practicing guitar, playing football or etc., you’ll slowly start to see yourself get better, and the outcome of doing so bares fruit. You start to change and that knowledge soon becomes like second nature to you. I learned that you don’t need to see the results, you’ll slowly start to see the outcome as you go along. Just like when you start out a project, you take time to build it up and then your work is soon finished!

The last gift I discovered is to simply be a human or what Seth Godin likes to call, a Linchpin. In the midst of studying and creating projects, I’ve come to learn that being a linchpin means looking at the world as a gift giver. Like the word “work”, the thought of work shouldn’t be just about earning money, it’s about giving your skill, talent and art in that platform. As a linchpin you know that your work is meant to make a difference, solve problems and create a change that would help millions. You create knowing that it’s not just about you, but what you do becomes a blessing to others.

This seasons has taught me that it’s alright to live without a system, we are not robots but humans, so I should stop following instructions and just start being an artist. Create without worries about what anyone will think. I should be someone who dreams up new ideas and make them real.
